Open House Gathering

Open House Gathering

Jessica Harry

We're excited to announce an upcoming community meeting on March 6, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm at the Community Gym. This gathering will provide an opportunity for us to come together, connect, and engage in meaningful conversations.

During the meeting, representatives from each department will be present to provide updates, answer questions, and listen to your valuable feedback.

Here's a brief overview of what each department will be sharing:

Lands Department

Malahat Nation is committed to ensuring that the community's interests and concerns are at the forefront of our land management efforts. Through strategic planning and the implementation of the Land Code, the Nation is asserting its self-governance authority over reserve lands and prioritizing community initiatives. The Nation's Lands Department has structured their focus into four key service areas: Lands Management, Environmental Stewardship, Culture and Heritage and Rights & Title advocacy. The Lands Department will have updates on recent projects and planning initiatives and will have staff available to answer questions and document any feedback on areas of priority for the community.

Marine Stewardship

Malahat Nation always had a strong connection with the natural environment, particularly the Salish Sea. Since time immemorial, Malahat ancestors have been stewards of the shared resources offered by the beaches, estuaries, rivers, seabeds and oceans. The Malahat Environment department aims to ensure that future generations of Malahat Members can enjoy the same natural resources that Malahat ancestors have enjoyed historically. This includes delivering programs that support Malahat members’ rights to maintain and strengthen their distinctive spiritual relationship with traditionally owned lands, territories, waters, and coastal seas.

Information Systems & Technology

The Malahat Nation Information Systems & Technology Department will be present at the upcoming community event to address inquiries regarding IT-related topics, our newsletter, and the newly launched Malahat Nation website. We are eager to listen to your feedback and suggestions for enhancing our systems. Additionally, we are more than willing to provide guidance on any technical issues you may have.

Economic Development

Malahat’s Economic Development team pursues business opportunities that honour Malahat values while enhancing the wellbeing of members and future generations. Our focus is on starting new businesses, bringing in investments, and creating jobs with business partners. Some of the projects we’ve been involved with include the Malahat Business Park, the Malahat Skywalk, and the new Cardlock gas station. The ultimate goal of our team is to create sufficient wealth for members to each have access to all the resources they need to thrive. At the event, our team will be available to answer questions and accept feedback from members.
