Overview

Malahat Nation Lands and Environment department is working with Dillon Consulting on a Local Area Plan (LAP) and Design Guidelines project. The LAP will assist with the implementation of the Land Use Plan (LUP) and provide guidance and clarity regarding future development within the specified community lands ensuring the LUP is implemented in a good way. Design guidelines will also be created which will increase the clarity of development guidelines, specifying the desired form and character of the area, and detailing approval processes

  • Phase 1: Learning and Visioning

    Completed

    Jun 2024 - Oct 2025

    Dillon Consulting and Malahat Lands and Environment department meeting to discuss details of the project, including the engagement process, project schedule, and background review. Dillon consulting will prepare a draft community engagement plan, project brand, review related documentation, host the first engagement event, and create a 'what we heard' memo. Community engagements will be held, including a fall and spring feasts and a survey.
  • Phase 2: Drafting the Community Lands Master Plan Concept and Design Guidelines

    Dec 2024 - Nov 2025

    Dillon Consulting will use the knowledge gained from the engagements and background review to work with the Lands and Environment department to create the initial design guidance that is specifically influenced by the Coast Salish culture, traditions, and the relationship with the land. A draft master plan concept map, text, and design guidelines will be created. As part of the Local Area Planning work that has been brought forward to community, the Lands and Environment Department are looking for additional information from community members on building design preferences.   • Phase 3: Finalize and Celebrate
